Ramadan

Sweet Ramadan! A month of joy, community, discipline, and mindfulness. Ramadan celebrates the revelation of the Qur’an, God’s message of compassion and guidance to the Prophet Muhammed (may peace and blessings be upon him). Ramadan is a time to reflect and meditate, appreciate blessings, make amends, reach out to those less fortunate, and reconnect with family, friends, and communities.

Fasting during Ramadan cultivates mindfulness and compassion. When fasting, Muslims abstain from eating or drinking from sunrise until sunset. They guard themselves from actions that harm another and from speaking or hearing hurtful words about another. They give generously to those in need. The break of the fast, iftar, is filled with favorite foods, celebration and prayer that nourishes hearts and bodies.
